Friday
Well we didn’t make Detroit, but hey this is a holiday! Today the weather was dry but cold, so not a time to take the roof down 0n the car. We drove along the highway 80 till Shipshewana were we got back onto the Oregon Trail on route 20. The area is wooded but a lot of Dutch style barns and small farms. On reading the guide we discovered that this is Amish country. It wasn’t long before we passed a horse drawn buggy driving down the road. And then we noticed outside the beautiful, but big farmhouses rows and rows of washing drying on the line. We also passed Amish ladies riding bicycles down the highway.

We pulled over at Elkhart for lunch in a Family Dinner. The thing that greeted us was a notice saying that from 1st October, hunting season, they would be serving breakfast from 4am till 7, they don’t believe in waiting! And the mugs all offered to prepare the deer we shot! Lunch was terrific. So off we go to the Windy City.
We got to the outskirts at 4 to be met by huge traffic jams and road building that I found hard to believe. The Sat Nav really came into its own and navigated us to my cousins street with no problem. The problem was finding the number of his apartment block, but we arrived at 5.15 and parked underneath the apartment block. Once we had settled in we all went out to an Italian restraint for a Pizza ( well it is Chicago)
