Onto the Mother Road
Sunday morning and up early ish, restorative coffee and down to laod the car. Parking was $44 for 2 days compared to $10 for 1 hour in New York! A glittering day, so the roof came down and of we went in search for Route 66, the Mother Road .
It wasn’t long before we saw the signs signaling the Route 66, but for most of the journey the road shared the space with interstates. We decided we would follow the interstate but come of at key places and times, usually lunch time.
Our first target was St Louis, but all plans were flexible. Rolling down the road with the roof off and the sun cream on was great and soon we started seeing references to Route 66.
Our first Famous sighting was the Launching Pad dinner with its huge spaceman.

It was then of to Dwight were we went to the Route 66 dinner, ( We are finding there are hundreds of them, as well as route museums)

We went on a few miles to Odell were there is a preserved 1930 gas station, it smelt right and the curator was only too keen to talk. His 66 car outside was a beaut.

We then pressed on across the flat plains

and decided we were tired so stoped at Troy a few miles north of St Louis and so to bed.
