Ozark Mountains
Another fine day as we left Troy and headed towards St Louis. WE caught the morning rush hour, but got a great view as we crossed the mighty Mississippi of the great Arch to the west.
We continued down the road and were faced with hundreds of bill boards in the miles and miles of the Ozark Mountgain forest for the Meramac caverns. The owner certainly knows something about advertising.(look at his web site, what a pretentious name. http://www.americascave.com/ ) We decided to have look so came off at Stanton, a haunt of the Jesse James Gang. A short drive through the wonderful woods and along the clear Meramac river and we came to the old Saltpeter caves and the hype did not disappoint. Some pictures of the caves are here.

As we drove past the university area a booming voice warned us “This is an emergency broadcast” Wow we thought what have we done. It was only then that the voice announced that this was the monthly test of the warning system. We thought for a while that war had been declared!
A little further down the road we thought we saw a little brown thing moving through the forest. What was it? Well the answer became obvious when we came upon the sign telling us what the woods were.

We stopped for lunch and then explored the river, were we saw not only fish but terrapins, real nature!
Back on the road we thought we would make Springfield, this is not a race. Getting close to the Motel we saw a sign advertising Memory Walks for the Alzheimer Society, this sounded a bit odd.
We settled in then went to see the Bass Pro Shop, a hunting and fishing paradise, you will see what I mean if you follow http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.OnlineShopping?CMID=MH_HOME We stayed on in this amazing place for dinner and then crashed back at the motel.

Hi Tony. Just having a look through your adventures now. Looks like fun. I take it you don't plan to leave an inheritance for your kids! That's the spirit. :-)
